Physical Performance Coach

Location: Halifax, NS

Job Description:
The Halifax Tides FC is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Physical Performance Coach to join our sporting staff as a cornerstone of our high-performance environment. This role is central to optimizing player health, readiness, and long-term development. Ensuring our athletes are consistently prepared to meet the physical and mental demands of the NSL season.

As a trusted performance leader, you will oversee the full spectrum of physical preparation, from strength & conditioning and injury prevention, to applied sports science, monitoring, and recovery. The successful candidate will be highly collaborative, working daily with coaches, medical staff, and players to design and deliver programs that enhance both individual development and collective team performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, Deliver & Evaluate Strength & Conditioning programming including but not limited to warm ups & cooldown, activation & recovery sessions, speed, conditioning & strength training.
  • Plan, conduct & report on physical testing and profiling at key points in the season (preseason, mid-season, return-to-play).
  • In collaboration apply evidence informed up to date sports Integrate sports science principles to recommendations in the areas of  (training load and recovery).
  • Lead high quality monitoring practices that provide actionable insights from key data pertaining to player training load, fitness testing and readiness/wellness.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and player profiles to communicate clearly with coaching staff.
  • Act as the lead of the IST (Integrated Support Team), collaborating to build player specific plans to maximize player health and performance, and reduce the risk of injury.
  • Develop and monitor post season plans specific to athlete goals, and performance objectives.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of full time experience and a track record of impactful strength and conditioning coaching in a high performance sport setting (preferably soccer).
  • Soccer specific experience is an asset.
  • Track Record of leadership within a multidisciplinary team and of working collaboratively with coaches to plan and achieve performance objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and deliver individualized programs that address the demands of Professional Women’s soccer.

Assets:

  • Background as a high performance athlete or coach.
  • Previous experience or collaboration with COPSIN.
  • Sports Scientist Canada High Performance Certification (HPC) or equivalent.
  • Experience working for a professional soccer team.

Essential Skills/Traits:

  • Comprehensive ability to plan, design, deliver, and monitor strength & conditioning programs tailored to team and individual needs  In a manner that elicits the players trust and respect.
  • Lead performance monitoring and data collection (GPS, wellness surveys, strength testing, force platforms, etc.) and translate results into actionable insights.
  • Understanding of the physical and technical/tactical demands of women's professional soccer.
  • Comprehensive ability to effectively collaborate within a multidisciplinary team on specific initiatives ( e.g. return to play).
  • Comfortable Delivering Pre-Training warm ups, including speed training, conditioning & RTP sessions on field.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to present data and insights to technical and medical staff.

Work Environment:

  • Full-time, Halifax-based position with travel required for away matches.
  • Working schedule often includes evenings, weekends, and holidays as dictated by training and match schedules.
  • This role requires both admin-based work (data analysis, reporting) and field-based work (coaching, testing, monitoring).
  • Involves working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
