Rylee Foster-Inman was an unyielding last line of defense as Halifax Tides FC faced off against AFC Toronto in their first away game of the season. On Sunday at BMO Field, the Tides held last year’s Northern Super League regular season champions to a 0-0 draw, earning a point on the road off the back of defensive excellence and off-the-ball discipline.

From the opening whistle, it was clear that the Tides knew their assignment. Facing off against an offensively-proven Toronto side, the Tides weathered the pressure and demanded respect on the pitch with their possession and counterattacks.

The defensive line featured a top-notch performance from newcomer Naya Cardoza. Her relentless efforts in the defensive third set the tone early and she continued to shut down several Toronto attacking opportunities throughout the match.

Toronto nearly opened the scoring in the 19th minute when a ball floated over the lines, finding Kaylee Hunter as she split the Halifax defense. Foster-Inman slowed the initial shot and Sheyenne Allen tracked the play perfectly, sprinting to clear the ball off the line and maintain the 0-0 score.

Moments later, Foster-Inman was tested again as Esther Okoronkwo broke free in the 22nd minute, facing a high-danger one-on-one. The keeper remained composed and denied the opportunity to keep the match level.

While the Halifax defense held the fort, the midfield, anchored by Karima Lemire, worked to turn defensive stops into offensive transitions. Tides co-captain, Saorla Miller, commanded the attacking line, threatening the Toronto net with whipped crosses, long shots and aerial chances from Lemire’s set-piece deliveries.

The final whistle marked the scoreless draw, but a massive statement on the pitch. With a point in the bag and a clean sheet to show for it, the Tides move on, unbeaten and carrying momentum into their next fixture.
