Halifax Tides FC dropped points again this week, this time at home against Vancouver Rise FC. Despite a strong overall showing from the Tides, their efforts fell short as the final whistle marked a 2-1 loss.

Tides FC began the match with clear offensive superiority, dominating possession and controlling the run of play. Relentless pressing from wide attackers Tiffany Cameron and Saorla Miller allowed them several early opportunities from the touch line and top of the 18-yard box, respectively.

It was the Rise who struck first in the 37th minute, though, when Jessica De Filippo finished off a counter-attack by connecting with the far corner of the Tides’ net.

Halifax would later even the score in the 57th minute when Jordyn Rhodes held off multiple Vancouver defenders in the six-yard box, turned, and found the goal. The striker was a threat from the opening minute, displaying both impressive link-up play and solo skills in the final third and nearly finding a brace on several occasions.

However, the momentum from Rhode’s equalizer would be short-lived. Less than two minutes later, Vancouver took the lead again, after an unbalanced physical contest in the Halifax box led to a penalty.

Halifax would continue their attacking efforts for the remainder of the match, coming close and finishing with 17 shots to Vancouver’s 7, yet the scoreline remained the same.

“I think we need to focus more on not getting too excited when we score and stay focused so they don’t score on us again,” said Rhodes, when asked about the overall performance.

“I tell the players all the time, you can play poorly and win, and you can play really well and lose,” added head coach Stephen Hart. “It’s not doom-and-gloom here. We are doing good things, we’ve had good moments, and it will begin to click for us. That’s how football usually is.”
