Halifax Tides FC fell 2-1 to Ottawa Rapid FCat Wanderers Grounds on Friday. After a hard-fought battle and several close attempts, a last-minute goal from Ottawa’s D.B. Pridham called the match.

Though the Tides opened the match with several attacking threats, Jyllissa Harris found the back of the net first in the 38th minute, capitalizing on a confusing deflection in the Halifax 18-yard box.

Rylee Foster-Inman would go on to save a penalty in first-half stoppage time, reviving the Tides’ momentum and keeping the deficit at one heading into the break.

The back-and-forth play continued until the 70th minute when Syd Kennedy charged down the left flank, cut back and found Julia Benati at the edge of the box. Benati hit it first-time, sailing the ball over the keeper and evening the score.

The final goal of the match came in the 88th minute from a controversial moment in the Halifax box. An errant ball slipped through the hands of Foster-Inman, bumped by an attacking Ottawa player, and D.B. Pridham stepped in to finish the rebound.

“This is the second game at home where we’re going to go away thinking that we should’ve gotten something,” said head coach Stephen Hart. “But I couldn’t have asked more from the players. They threw everything into the game.

“The next game is always the most important game,” added forward Stella Downing. “We want to grind out any win. Obviously, this was a disappointing result, but – onto the next one.”

UP NEXT: The Tides are back at home Saturday, June 13 at 1:30 p.m. as they face Calgary Wild FC in their second matchup of the season.
