Saorla Miller and Julianne “Jubes” Vallerand hosted a goal scoring clinic as Halifax Tides FC secured a 4-0 win over Calgary Wild FC Sunday night at McMahon Stadium.

The statement victory marks another record-breaking match for the Tides, topping their highest single-match goal tally from this season’s home opener.

Halifax came out on the front foot from the opening whistle, pressing high in a front-loaded 4-1-2-3 shape and forcing Calgary onto the back foot early.

The breakthrough came in the seventh minute when Vallerand took a through-ball in stride and tried the keeper. Initially stopped, the ensuing rebound found Miller whose composed first touch made it 1-0.

As the pressure continued, a perfectly-placed corner kick from Sarah Taylor in the 22nd minute swung toward an unmarked Vallerand who nodded the ball into the back of the net.

Just before halftime, Halifax added a third. Centreback Addy Weichers picked out Miller blazing down the left channel with a long pass into space, and the forward finished clinically for her second goal of the night.

Calgary opened the second half with pressure of their own, gaining several ultimately unsuccessful chances. However, in the 78th minute Halifax put the icing on the cake. Vallerand scored an early goal of the year candidate from the edge of the 18-yard box with an absolute rocket into the top corner.

The remainder of the match followed suit. Halifax continued their ferocious attack, both goalscorers hungry for a hattrick and their teammates eager to join them on the scoresheet. Halifax closed out the match to complete the 4-0 victory.
