Halifax Tides FC kicked off their Northern Super League sophomore season with a dominant performance against Ottawa Rapid FC last Saturday. With over 4,000 spirited fans in attendance, the Tides began their 2026 campaign with a 3-1 win – the most goals in a single game in the club’s history.
Halifax struck first in the 38th minute, when a corner kick found the head of centre back Addy Weichers as she broke through a crowded six-yard box.
In the 78th minute, Jordyn Rhodes capped off an impressive team display, netting a second Tides goal off the bench after only three minutes on the pitch. Despite relentless pressing from the Tides, Ottawa responded quickly with a long cross and quick finish that cut the lead in half. However, Halifax held firm with their confident possession and composed build-up play.
The Tides finalized their home opener win in the 84th minute. Midfielder Cho So-Hyun drove into the box, beating three defenders and losing the ball on the fourth, only for Jubes Vallerand to collect it at the top of the 18-yard box, take a touch and tuck it inside the near post.
The win marked not only the start of a new season, but a new start for the Tides, with many new faces and several professional debuts, including Jordyn Rhodes, Naya Cardoza and Kat Jordan.
