Halifax Tides FC is entering a new phase of its Academy program this fall with Mike Ayyash appointed as Academy Director, bringing extensive experience in professional player development to the Club’s growing development program.
The Academy will place a greater focus on high-performance development and its connection to the Halifax Tides First Team, giving emerging players the opportunity to train within the Club’s football philosophy and develop an understanding of the standards and demands of the professional game.
Mike Ayyash to Lead Halifax Tides Academy
Ayyash, a familiar name in the Nova Scotia soccer community, brings experience in player development at the professional, provincial and national levels.
He has spent the past nine years with Vancouver Whitecaps FC, most recently serving as Academy Centre Technical Director while remaining based in Halifax. His previous roles include work with Bedford Soccer Association and Soccer Nova Scotia, including within the province’s high-performance and REX environments.
Alongside his work with the Whitecaps, Ayyash currently serves as Technical Assistant Coach with Canada’s U-20 Women’s National Team, working with some of the country’s top emerging players and gaining experience at the international level.
His experience across the local, professional and national-team environments will inform the Academy’s development model and strengthen its connection to the standards of the professional game.

His experience, his knowledge of this region and his track record in player development make him an incredible addition to the Club, and we are confident he’s the right person to help us build something really special.”
Building on Year One
The Halifax Tides Academy was introduced during the Club’s inaugural season. As the Tides established the program, the Club partnered closely with the Team Nova Scotia players who represented the province at the 2025 Canada Games, providing an opportunity to work with and support some of the region’s emerging talent.
The first year also gave the Club an opportunity to learn more about the needs of players and what a long-term professional academy program can provide in Atlantic Canada.
This fall, the Academy will build on that foundation with a closer connection to the First Team, the Club’s technical structure and the development of high-potential players in the region.
The program is designed to provide players with a high-performance training environment while giving them greater exposure to the standards, expectations and football philosophy of a professional club.
A Pathway to the First Team
The Halifax Tides Academy will operate as an invite-based program, with players identified through the Club’s technical network and scouting process.
While initial participation will be by invitation, the Club also wants to ensure emerging players across the region have an opportunity to put themselves on the radar. As the Academy grows, players and families will be able to register their interest and stay connected to future identification opportunities.
The Academy will work in alignment with the First Team, creating greater connection between the environments and giving high-potential players exposure to the standards and expectations of professional soccer.
The long-term goal is to develop players who can progress through the Club’s system and earn an opportunity to compete for a place with the Halifax Tides First Team.
