Halifax held scoreless in first loss of the season

Halifax Tides FC suffered their first loss of the 2026 campaign on Wednesday night against Ottawa Rapid FC. On a cold, wet evening, the Tides dealt with both the harsh elements and an aggressive Ottawa attack, losing 2-0 and falling to fourth in the table.

In a true game of two halves, the Tides came out swinging in the first. Heavy pressing allowed them several opportunities to open the scoring, most notably in the form of two outside-the-box chances from Syd Kennedy and Saorla Miller, with Kennedy’s screamer beating the keeper and hitting the crossbar.

The Tides continued their attacking work in the first half, gaining several chances that were ultimately unsuccessful. The momentum of the game shifted in the 35th minute, however, when Ottawa’s Sadie Waite found some space at the edge of the Halifax 18-yard box and slotted home the first goal of the match.

The second half’s momentum would continue in favour of the opposition, as the Tides struggled to build up an effective attack.

In the 77th minute, worsening conditions were matched on the scoresheet. Rylee Foster-Inman turned aside a long-range effort but could not control the slick rebound, allowing Ottawa’s Choo Hyo-Joo to capitalize. Catching the Tides back line flat-footed, Choo used her pace to break into the area and finish from close range.

Despite several substitutions and efforts from the Tides to get back into the match, Rapid FC held the scoreline, evening the season series between the two clubs.

“At one-nil away from home, you're still in the game,” said head coach Stephen Hart after the match. “Unfortunately the second goal came and it was a preventable one. So if we have to do anything, especially when the game is tight, it's to be a little more measured when we play.”

UP NEXT: Halifax Tides FC return home on May 18 at 6 p.m., hosting Vancouver Rise FC at the Wanderers Grounds.

HEAD TO HEAD: With the win, the regular-season series is tied at one apiece, each side claiming a victory on home soil.
