Earlier this week, Halifax Tides FC and CBCL teamed up to welcome Indigenous youth from the Mi'kmaw Native Friendship Centre for a special Youth Soccer Skills Clinic—an afternoon full of laughter, learning, and plenty of soccer.
As part of CBCL's commitment to supporting community initiatives, the clinic gave young participants the chance to hit the pitch with Halifax Tides FC players, build their skills, and simply have fun. With participants ranging in age from 4 to 16 years old, the day was about much more than soccer—it was about building confidence, making connections, and showing that everyone has a place in the game.
After kicking things off with a group warm-up and stretch, the group rotated through skill stations focused on dribbling and shooting before wrapping up the afternoon with a scrimmage. Halifax Tides FC players Sam St. Croix, Karima Lemire, Eva Fremaux, and Julie Pedersen jumped right into the action, cheering on participants, sharing tips along the way, and celebrating every great play. By the end of the day, it was hard to tell who was having more fun—the kids or the players.
"At CBCL, we enjoy supporting opportunities that can help young people connect with their communities. Through our partnership with the Mi'kmaw Native Friendship Centre and the Halifax Tides, we're helping provide access to meaningful experiences that inspire confidence, teamwork, and a sense of belonging,” said John Flewelling, President & CEO, CBCL Limited. “We believe investing in youth and supporting inclusive community programs is an important part of building a stronger future for the communities we serve."
The fun isn't over just yet. On August 3, the group will return as special guests for a Halifax Tides FC home match. Thanks to CBCL, the youth and their families will experience all the excitement of a Tides matchday together, making even more memories—this time from the stands.
When community partners come together, great things happen. Halifax Tides FC, CBCL, and the Mi'kmaw Native Friendship Centre are proud to create opportunities that bring people together, inspire the next generation, and show just how powerful sport can be.
