Halifax Tides FC, the region’s first professional women’s soccer club, has officially established its year-round training base at the BMO Soccer Centre, home of Soccer Nova Scotia. Thanks to a collaborative grant from ACOA and BMO, and the expert design and construction by EMCO, the club has added purpose-built training, recovery, and operational spaces that bring the facility on par with other professional clubs across Canada.

“These upgrades give our athletes the tools, space, and comfort they need to train at an elite level right here in Nova Scotia,” said club president Val Malone. “It’s a major step forward for professional women’s soccer in Atlantic Canada, but it’s also just the beginning. This is the first facility of its kind in our region– but it’s not the finish line. There’s more to be done to grow the infrastructure our athletes deserve.”

Facility Upgrades:

  • Renovated Locker Rooms - custom seating, lockable storage, matted flooring, speaker system, and updated washrooms.
  • Equipment & Operations Hub - Custom storage, washer/dryer facilities, and offices for operations staff to manage equipment, logistics, and day-to-day training needs efficiently.
  • Player Lounge & Recovery Space - Relaxation area with high-end recovery devices, including massage tables, compression therapy systems, and hydrotherapy equipment.
  • Medical Treatment Room - Private, fully stocked space for consultations, therapy, and injury management.
  • Whirlpool-Style Ice Bath - Hydrotherapy for post-training recovery.
  • Nutrition Area - Fridge, dishwasher, and blenders to support dietitian-informed fueling.
  • On-Site Technical Offices - Dedicated workspaces for coaching and support staff, enabling performance analysis, training planning, and direct player support on-site.
  • Additional Field-Side Storage - Convenient access to training equipment.

The upgrades are already in use, with ongoing construction set to complete all spaces in the coming months. Halifax Tides FC is the first professional women’s club in Atlantic Canada to combine year-round indoor and outdoor training with purpose-built recovery and performance spaces, setting a new standard for the region.

Beyond supporting elite athletes, the BMO Soccer Centre remains a hub for the local soccer community. Tides locker rooms and facilities will be shared with youth teams, including players from the Halifax Tides FC Academy, allowing young athletes to experience a professional environment first-hand. By seeing what’s possible, they can dream bigger and work toward careers in professional sport.

“The upgrades to the BMO Soccer Centre have already had a positive impact on our training, recovery, and overall team morale,” said Halifax Tides FC co-captain Saorla Miller. “Having a dedicated space to train and grow together is essential to building a successful club and attracting players. It’s also meaningful to see our team gain greater visibility and to show young athletes that they can dream big and see themselves in our position one day.”
